Overcoming Sexual Sin

Every young man or woman clearly knows that we are expected to live purely and away from sexual sins. But, the problem is that we succumb to the flesh easily and realize our deeds only afterwards. Sexual desires keep tormenting everybody from teenagers to even people in their seventies.
The Almighty God we worship who stands as the supreme authority over the whole universe and also keeps reminding us that He loves us endlessly does not just create rules for us to follow. The beauty is that he gives us wonderful remedies from every sin. Yes He is our “Saviour” first more than anything else.

Romans 13: 13-14
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
1.       Put ye on:
This verse illustrates our Lord Jesus Christ as clothing that covers us. Remember that we are expected to wear clothing always. Roaming around naked for a few minutes makes us perverts or mentally unstable men. Let us keep Jesus that closer to us.
Jesus covers all our flesh. Not just our sins, we are expected to have Jesus cover our sinful desires, the ones that drive us towards sin. If Jesus is given that kind of priority in our lives, the sinful desires are trashed.
If we sin in spite of these, let us remember that we are throwing Christ away from our lives. It is that kind of insult we are giving to him.

2.       Lord
Not in all verses Paul refers to Jesus as Lord, but he does that in here. We accept Jesus as our Lord. The LORD who created the universe owns us completely and has full authority. When our sinful desires come up, we should remember that Jesus owns us and we have to avoid sin with reverence and fear or else face judgement.

3.       Christ
Jesus is Christ meaning Messiah or Saviour. Jesus has clearly said that He is THE WAY. We do not have any other option than to trust in him for deliverance. As we get closer to him, he makes us clean and free from everything the flesh desires.

4.       Make no provision
Paul requests us to absolutely make no provision for the flesh. A teeny tiny opening will drag us completely in. On sexual terms, we should remember that a short private discussion with the partner can easily bring us there. We are expected to practise caution when we are interacting with the opposite (or sometimes the same) sex members. Let us remember that when our clothing is out, Christ is no longer there to support us. Let us avoid the first step that takes us there.

5.       Flesh:
The reality is that our flesh is so strong enough to drown us and will constantly try to make us fall to our desires. We should keep feeding our soul with the word making it stronger than the flesh.

Interestingly, we should see that strife and envy are placed equally with sexual sins which we consider to be the worst. Jealousy should be treated with the same amount of caution for deliverance.

Let us clothe Jesus covering all our fleshy desires, our pride, anger and everything else and keep him closer to us.
