Psalms 18: 1, 2

Psalms 18:1,2

Love

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

This is an experience David introduces in the Bible. Enoch was walking with God, Jacob did some wrestling, Moses was faithful etc.. David was the first one to mention that he loves God.

The situation is after David & team were saved from the hand of Saul and other enemies. In this kind of situation our method will be to give a vote of thanks. This guy says "I Love You Lord". I would translate this to a great hug a child gives back to his dad after victory.
That is the type of experience we should have with God.

Safety
In vs 2, David says that the Lord is:
1.       Rock : where we stand upon. A help from underneath.
2.       Fortress : Protection from all around.
3.       Deliverer: Even after I've fallen, he lowers his hand down and lifts me up.
4.       God : The person who looks after me from above and decides on everything else for my safety.
5.       Shield : Comes in between me and the enemy and receives all the enemies darts keeping me safe.
6.       Stronghold: Halfway through my fall, he gestures to help me avoid destruction.

So, God has done all the steps required for our safety. What did David did to receive that?
Vs 20: David was righteous and God gave his reward.

All that David did was to sincerely obey the Lord and he receives all kinds of safety from the Almighty.

We should also understand that my success was because of my obedience to God's mind. I did not make any attempts to plan, think or decide. God did everything that is required for my safety. All I have to do is just obey and enjoy a very safe ride.

Let God arise and his enemies be scattered

Ps 68: 1

This is a prayer we all should have in our hearts. God should win and the devil should lose.
·         This verse speaks about the devil be scattered. This means the end of his reign and all his power being lost.

  • ·        On a personal perspective :

o   However, are we letting the devil lose in our private and personal lives? Are we letting him lose in our work life?
o   Jesus asks us to take up his cross and move forward. This might be slightly harder. (Mat 16:24)
o    But the encouragement is that his yolk is easy. (Mathew 11:30) This is something we are able to handle ourselves.

  • ·        On a broader point of view, we should compare this with the second petition we are asked to make when praying. "Your Kingdom come."  (Mathew 6:10)

o   This comes before all the other personal favors and requirements.
o   The request is that the world is full of confusion, corruptness, selfishness, addiction and all kinds of evil the devil could bring upon. We should ask God to bring an end to all this.
o   The devil is the current lord of the earth. (2 Corinthians 4: 4).
o   The request that the Devil is lost forever should be our primary concern or longing.

  • ·        Some of us stick to beliefs that Jesus might not come as in the last 2000 years.

o   The problem is that they are not ready for his coming.
o   They are unwilling to let the devil go our completely in their lives.

  • ·        In Christendom, a common confusion is that we should be waiting for the rapture so that we alone should be saved.

o   This prayer wants us to long for the devil's end even more than the rapture.
o   For the devil to lose, we should not long for the rapture, we should long for the second coming. (Rev 19: 11 - 21)
